Hometown Moving Pros, our partner of the month, on moving a senior from a longtime home, what clients ask most, and how to get in touch.

How did Hometown Moving Pros start, and who do you help?
We're two local owners in Durham Region who started Hometown Moving Pros in 2026, bringing together more than 10 years of moving experience and 20 years of cleaning experience on our team. We wanted to build a business around professional service, honest communication and hometown care.
We help individuals, seniors, families and businesses throughout Durham Region and surrounding communities. Along with moving, we offer packing and cleaning, so people can get support with more of the transition.
What do you wish more seniors and families knew about your work?
Moving is about much more than transporting furniture. For a senior leaving a longtime home, belongings can represent a lifetime of memories. Listening, being patient and understanding what matters to that person are essential.
You don't have to have everything figured out before contacting us. Starting the conversation early gives us time to understand your needs and explain how we can help.
What do clients ask you most, and what do you tell them?
Common questions are: "What will it cost?", "What's included?" and "Can you help with packing?"
We explain how the estimate works, what services are included and what could affect the final cost. We also talk through practical details such as stairs, elevators, building access and items needing special care. Our goal is to help people feel informed and prepared.
Is there a moment with a client that has stayed with you?
One recent move that I know will stay with me involved a widowed woman moving from her home of 50 years into a retirement residence. Her husband had passed the previous year, she didn't have much family support, and she called the office often while preparing.
We took the time to ask how she was managing. When she told us she was struggling with packing, and why she was leaving her home, I sent two movers over to provide some complimentary packing help.
This will always stay with me as a constant reminder that everybody needs help with something. Taking the time to listen helps us see where we can make a difference in someone's life. Sometimes the smallest gesture can mean the world of difference to someone struggling.
What should a CASL member say or ask when they first get in touch?
Just say, "I'm a CASL member, and I'd like to talk about an upcoming move."
Tell us who needs help, where they're moving, the approximate timing and any concerns. You can ask about moving, packing, cleaning or coordinating with the residence. If you're calling on someone else's behalf, let us know your role and who should be involved in planning.
You can reach us at 416-902-4350 or info@hometownmp.ca.
