Getting around

Seniors 65 and over ride Oakville Transit free, seven days a week, on every route, with a PRESTO card set to the senior fare type; tap on when you board. Read the Town’s notice.

care-A-van is Oakville Transit’s door-to-door service for people whose disability stops them using regular buses, and it is free with a PRESTO card. Apply with a form certified by a medical practitioner; to have one mailed, call 905-337-9222. Read about care-A-van.

Programs and activities

The Town of Oakville runs six seniors’ centres and clubs for people 50 and over: Iroquois Ridge, Queen Elizabeth Park, River Oaks, Sir John Colborne in Bronte, Sixteen Mile, and Trafalgar Park in Kerr Village. An annual membership, $59.77 for ages 50 to 79, $29.89 for 80 to 89 and free from 90, includes drop-in programs; non-residents pay $10 more. Call 905-815-2000. Read the Town’s page.

Help with money

The Town of Oakville’s Senior’s Property Tax Rebate is $500 for 2026; apply with the Town’s form by October 31, 2026. Ask ServiceOakville, 905-845-6601, whether you qualify. You can take part in only one of the Town’s programs for seniors. Read the Town’s page.

Halton Region’s Older Adults Property Tax Deferral Program lets homeowners 65 and over defer their whole property tax bill, interest free, if the owners’ combined income is under $69,500, it is their only property in Halton and they have lived in it for the last four years. A one-time $200 fee is added, and the taxes are repaid when the home is sold or the deferral ends. Apply at your Town or City Hall by September 30 each year (Oakville: 905-845-6601); the 2026 period has closed, and the next form is expected in spring 2027. You can’t be in another deferral or rebate program at the same time. Read the Region’s page.
